Speaker Todd Hiett, a Creek County rancher and dairyman, was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 1994 at the age of 27. With his distinctive rural personality, Hiett quickly ascended into leadership and was selected by his colleagues to be House Minority Leader in November of 2002. Two years later, he led the State House Republicans to their first majority in eight decades and their largest victory in nearly a half century. Marking a historic shift in power at the Capitol, Hiett was chosen the first Republican speaker in more than eight decades.

Hiett is married to Bridget Beil Hiett, formerly of Sapulpa. They have three children, Jimmy, John, and Hillary. The Hiett family lives on a ranch two miles south of Kellyville, only a mile from the original farm that his great-grandfather owned nearly a century before him and where his parents still farm today.

Having started a hay bailing operation at the age of 15, and owning his own farm while in college, Hiett is a natural born businessman, proving that agricultural remains a viable option for innovative and savvy young farmers. The former FFA district star farmer graduated from Oklahoma State University, and then, with his new wife, Bridget, returned to Creek County to open a dairy. The Hietts operated a 150 cow dairy until June 2002 when they sold their dairy interest, and transitioned their farm into beef cattle production.

While serving in the Legislature is an honor, Speaker Hiett considers farming to be his chosen profession. Hiett is a citizen legislator who lives and works among the people of Creek County and then travels to the Capitol to represent them when the Legislature is in session.

During his first year as speaker, Hiett oversaw a smooth transition, as House Republicans ascended to power with a bold agenda. The new speaker pushed through the largest tax cut in state history, the most significant right-to-life legislation in 30 years, an innovative highway funding bill and also his top priority, significant workers comp reform.

Speaker Hiett has received several awards, and was named Tulsa County Republican Man of the Year in 2005. The speaker was named a top legislator by the Higher Education Alumni Council and received the Distinguished Service Award by the Oklahoma Career & Technology Board. Hiett also was named Pro-Business Advocate of the year by the Research Institute for Economic Development, an organization sponsored by the state Chamber.

Hiett is a member of the American Legislative Exchange Council, the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, and a lifetime member of the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association and OSU Alumni Association. He is a 2004 graduate of Leadership Oklahoma Class XVII. He also is currently serving on the Board of Spirit Bank.
